Trust and Tactical Linear Motion Battle System

Tales of Destiny 2 utilizes a variation of the classic LMBS, called the Trust and Tactical Linear Motion Battle System, or TT-LMBS for short. Tales of Destiny 2's battle scenes take place on a 2D plane, with enemies and allies running along the same line. Destiny 2 is known for having one of the fastest combat engines in the Tales series, rivaled only by the recent Tales of Destiny Remake. Abilities and attacks are all executed with enormous speed, and battles move along at a breathtaking pace.

This is also the first game to have an auto-zoom feature in combat, which will go on to become a staple in the Tales series. Finally, this is the first Tales game where all of the characters are able to use magic spells and abilities.

Spirit Bar and Enemy Territory

TOD2 introduces the Spirit Bar and Spirit Points, which join the classic HP (Hit points) and TP (Technical Points). The Spirit bar is one of the major reasons why these battles are so strategic. As the player uses different abilities, the spirit bar begins to deplete. It will continue to deplete until even a simple attack will not be able to be executed. In order to refill this bar, players must retreat and rest while their allies take the front line. Constantly juggling the position of your characters is a major facet of TOD2's battle system.

Also, both the Allies and the enemies have their own "territory," which is shown by a bar at the bottem of the screen. The leading character for each team denotes how much terrority each side has, and this also lends another layer of strategy to the game. For example, if Kyle is in the very front of his party, and he crosses behind the front monster in the enemie's party, he will be crossing into their territory, and his SP will be halved as a penalty until he returns to his own area.

Enchant

The Enchant system is Tales of Destiny 2 allows players to customize various attacks and abilities as they are used with increasing frequency. As an ability is used more frequently, new Enchant options become availible, although the player can only equip one at a time. The Enchant system is also used to trigger Hi-Ougi's, hidden, flashy attacks that cause massive damage.

Also, the Refine system allows players to create and refine new items using the ones they already have. Using rune bottles, two weapons can be combined in order to create a more powerful one, or a status effect item fused with a rune bottle can have greater intensity.
